Don’t forget to contact an academic advisor if you have questions about your course eligibility and/or you want to verify your remaining requirements. You can schedule an advising appointment at ist.gmu.edu/go/ist-advising-appointment-system.

We are offering more courses in Loudoun, this spring 2019! IT 104-010, IT 104-218, IT 109-006, IT 109-206, and IT 304-003.

Reminder for Sophomores:

Junior standing (min 60 credits earned) is required in order to register for IT 343.

Although you may be considered a junior by the start of the semester, if, when you go to register for IT 343, you have not yet had min 60 credits GRADED, you are not yet eligible to register for the course. Once you have had at least 60 credits graded, you will be able to add yourself to a waitlist and/or to a section. We CANNOT override student standing.

Reminder for Juniors:

Senior standing (min 90 credits earned) is required in order to register for IT 492. Although you may be considered a senior by the start of the semester, if, when you go to register for IT 492, you have not yet had min 90 credits GRADED, you are not yet eligible to register for the course. Once you have had at least 90 credits graded, you will be able to add yourself to a waitlist and/or to a section. We CANNOT override student standing.

If you have a substitution for a prerequisite of IT 492 that is not already coded in the system to be accepted as a prerequisite, you will need to submit an override request form at ist.gmu.edu/go/override in order to be given a prerequisite override so that once you are eligible to register for the course, you may do so. Prerequisites are listed in the University Catalog.

The override request form is available at https://ist.gmu.edu/go/override.

  • Overrides are needed if
    • You have a non-coded substitution/waiver for a course that is a prerequisite for a course for which you wish to register. You can view your substitutions/waivers in your Degree Evaluation; (examples: sub of ACCT 203 for MBUS 300; sub of OM 210 for STAT 250; MATH 123+MATH 124 instead of MATH 108; sub of MATH 114 for MATH 108; waiver of IT 212 or IT 341; grade of S for IT 191, IT 193, IT 194, or IT 196);
    • You wish to register for a concentration course but have transfer credit for the associated gateway course (i.e., grade of T for IT 106, IT 206, IT 213, IT 214, IT 223, or IT 341);
    • You wish to register for a Bridge Course (summers only)
    • You are in a catalog year BEFORE 2016-2017 and you have a C, C+, or B- in the course that is now a gateway course for concentrations (IT 106 or IT 109 for ITE; IT 206 or IT 214 for DTP; IT 213 for WDM; IT 214 for HIT; IT 223 for INFS; IT 341 for NTEL).
    • You need to take a third attempt at a course.  You MUST contact Dr. Islam, the Associate Chair, in order to obtain this override. Email him at kislam2@gmu.edu and include the reasons and aspects with which you struggled and your plans for success in your third and final attempt. Please DO NOT submit an override request via the system for third attempts.
  • Overrides are NOT needed if
    • You are currently registered for a course that is a prerequisite for a course you wish to take in the next semester. The system assumes you will pass your current course, and will allow you to register for the next course.  If you do not pass the current course, you must drop the subsequent course before the next term begins.  If you do not, you will be administratively removed from it. You will be responsible for any financial or academic repercussions of the schedule adjustment.

Closed Course?

It is against department policy to override course capacity. If a course is full, it is highly recommended that you add yourself to the waitlist. The more students we have on a waitlist, the more likely it becomes we will be able to open an additional section to meet student needs.
