Prof. Riki Morikawa Publishes Telecommunications Textbook
Undergraduate students taking IT 300 Modern Telecommunications now have a textbook written specifically to address their needs as an IT major. During a search for a new course textbook, it was found that most published works fell into one of two broad categories: textbooks intended for ECE students that principally focused heavily upon mathematical derivations, and those textbooks written at a high-level for ISM business students. In order to fill the gap between these two broad categories, the first edition of the “Fundamentals of Telecommunications and Networking for IT” was created specifically with the IT student in mind. This new textbook describes basic communication theories by introducing the student to easily understood equations that govern today’s modern digital, wireless and optical networks. The textbook then takes these basic principles to describe how they are applied to standards such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, cellular communications, and the Internet.
