Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Given the availability of large-scale data infrastructures nowadays, data-driven methods of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have been applied in nearly every domain and they are leading our society toward a prosperous future with powerful innovations. In IST, we (1) build state-of-the-art, high-performing AI/ML models in varying domains to realize superior prediction of complex phenomena, (2) develop AI/ML-driven tools to boost professional workers' task performance in varying domains, and (3) devise solutions that can achieve Fairness, Ethics, Accountability, and Transparency (FEAT) in AI/ML systems. IST faculty have demonstrated a research edge in a variety of research sub-fields, including Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Ethics in AI, Human-in-the-loop Machine Learning, and beyond.
