The department offers 1-credit review courses for a number of core/foundation courses. Each course is a self-paced, online comprehensive review, ending with an in-class final exam, intended to allow students who have taken a course at another institution for which there is no articulated course in the AIT program to review concepts previously learned and demonstrate that their academic exposure has provided them with the skills they need to succeed in advanced courses.

Students who register for a 1-credit course and successfully pass will receive credit (not a waiver) for the 3-credit respective course. Students who are not successful must take the respective course at GMU to meet their degree requirements.

Important Advising Note: Students may find each review course to be very challenging! Only students with a solid foundation of the content covered in the respective course should attempt to complete a review course. Review courses are not intended to replace the full content and experience gained from completing its 3-credit respective course. Students should consult with an advisor if they are unsure if they should register for a 1-credit review course or its 3-credit respective course.

The following review courses are available:

  • IT 193 – Review of Multimedia and Web Design [Respective Course: IT 213]
  • IT 194 – Review of Database Fundamentals [Respective Course: IT 214]
  • IT 196 – Review of IT Problem Solving Using Computer Programming [Respective Course: IT 106]

Course Syllabi are available for each course.

  • have transferred IT elective credit (denoted as IT – – –) for a comparable course
  • never have taken the review course previously, even if you withdrew from it without completing it (you can only register for each review course once)
  • never have taken the respective course previously at GMU, even if you withdrew from it without completing it

Students who have previously failed the test out exam for a respective course are still eligible to register for the review course, but should consider the advising note above.
