Academic Advising Appointments: Fairfax & SciTech Campuses

FALL 2021: Students are welcome to schedule 30-minute virtual advising appointments with Mrs. Howe (undergraduate), Ms. Rhodes (graduate and undergraduate), Mrs. Sevilla (graduate and undergraduate) by using the IST Advising Appointment System, or send quick questions to them at bsit@gmu.edu (undergraduates), msait@gmu.edu (graduates), chowe1@gmu.edu, lrhodes8@gmu.edu, or lsevill3@gmu.edu.

  • Create your account using your @gmu.edu email address (Please note that this appointment system is a different system separate to the Mason accounts you may already have, you must first create an account before accessing our appointment system . Using your @gmu.edu email is mandatory for current or newly admitted students.)
  • Select ONLY the appointment type for dates to populate. DO NOT select the campus.
  • Write in the comments section your main questions.
  • Your advisor will contact you prior to your appointment with detailed advising information as well as the instructions for joining the virtual meeting.

IT 293 Academic Advising Appointment Assignments:

  1. ️Schedule an appointment at ist.gmu.edu/go/advising.
  2. Be sure to email your COMPLETED Plan of Study (current term through final term at Mason, template in your IT 293 blackboard) to the advisor PRIOR TO your appointment time, and include any questions you may have. To help you determine what your remaining requirements are, be sure to review your Degree Evaluation (https://registrar.gmu.edu/students/degree-evaluation/degree-works/). You do not need to include the Verification form, as the advisors have a copy that we can use, already. If you have not already declared your concentration and you are eligible to do so, you may fill out, sign, and include the Change/Declaration of Academic Program form (registrar.gmu.edu/forms/) in your email to the advisor with your plan of study.
  3. The advisor will review your plan of study, make any notes/updates, and respond to you with a signed verification form. You will need to upload it and the approved plan to your Blackboard course in order to receive credit for the assignment. If, after you review the information we provide, you still wish to speak with the advisor during your scheduled time, be sure to let them know and they will send you a virtual meeting invitation to discuss your remaining inquiries.

Degree Evaluation

Degree evaluations are used to monitor your progress and ensure that you are fulfilling the requirements of your academic program. You are able to generate your own degree evaluation in PatriotWeb. If you need assistance in reading or interpreting your evaluation, please schedule an advising appointment.

Course Prequisites/Corequisites

Prerequisites for courses are based on the academic year the course is taught – not your program catalog year.  Your program catalog year provides the list of courses you are required to take to complete your degree. Prerequisite/corequisite requirements are never waived for any reason. The only overrides that are provided are for students that have completed the prerequisites, but they are not recognized by PatriotWeb.

Please view IT_Prerequisites for a helpful list of courses and their co/prerequisites.
