Undergraduate Change of Major to INFT

Effective Fall 2018 (For Students in All Catalog Years)
To be eligible to change your major to INFT, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all completed 100 and 200-level Information Technology foundation and core courses required for the major or their subsequent substitutions: (IT 102 or MATH 125), IT 104, IT 105 (IT 101, IT 212), IT 106, IT 206 (or CS 112 and CS 211), IT 216, IT 207, IT 213, IT 214, IT 223
  • Grade of C or better in IT 106 or IT 109

Please Note: IT 300 and 400 level courses are restricted to students who have declared an Information Technology major, minor, or undergraduate certificate, and to students in the BAS or BIS program.

Once you have met the requirements, to change your major to INFT, you must pick up or download and print a Change / Declaration of Academic Program form, have an IST Advisor sign it, and drop it off at one of the IST department offices.

You can use the Change of Major Eligibility Calculator to enter grades for courses you have completed.

Can other GMU courses be substituted for IT required courses?

The following GMU courses may be applied towards INFT requirements provided a grade of C or better is earned. You may pick up or download and print a Substitution/Waiver form from the IST office.
