Transfer Credit Re-Evaluation Appeals
This process is for students who have taken IT courses at previous institutions, were awarded elective credit (such as IT—) for a particular course, and wish to have it re-evaluated as equivalent to a specific Mason IT course. We cannot review equivalency for non-IT courses. For MATH, STAT, CS, and other appeals, please contact the respective department directly.
As this is a time-consuming process, please allow 4 weeks for processing.
Criteria:
- You must be within your first academic year at Mason. Credits cannot be reviewed after your first academic year has passed.
- The transfer course must have been taken within the past 5 years. You cannot be given credit for courses taken more than 5 years ago.
IST will not waive these requirements for any reason!
Student Process:
- Complete the Transfer Credit Re-Evaluation Appeal Form (https://admissions.gmu.edu/documents/transferCreditReEvalAppealForm.pdf).
- Obtain a syllabus from the semester you took the course.
- Gather any assignments/labs you completed (if possible).
- Submit all of the above documentation to the IST office
IST Process:
- An office staff member will confirm receipt of your materials and verify that the criteria above is met.
- Your materials will be reviewed by the department.
- If the department determines additional information is needed, you will be notified via Mason email.
- Once a decision is made, you will be notified of the outcome via Mason email.
- If your appeal is denied, you will need to take the appealed course at Mason.
- If your appeal is approved, IST will notify Admissions to update your records and give you credit for the transfer course. You will not need to take the course at Mason.
Questions about this process should be directed to kislam2@gmu.edu.
